Note to self to start ignoring the imaginary audience.

We have all experienced this while trying to write stories. Thinking too much about imaginary readers and audiences, and even trying to impress them. Let’s face it, we want others to like and appreciate our stories — be it just to experience that surge of dopamine that often comes with a clap, or to earn extra few bucks if *somehow* our story goes viral. So, for every thought and every word, we think of those imaginary others.

“What if they don’t like this particular post? What if they find it too personal? What if they pinpoint the gap in my knowledge and ridicule the story?”

Or, even worse, “What if they think I am just a poser trying to act smart?”

Suddenly, you hit the mental block, and the words stop flowing. And even if you have somehow managed to conjure up a few words, you won’t hit the dreaded publish button.

But you know what? Screw your imaginary audience!

Aren’t you already tired of masquerading all day, doing what others want and expect of you? At least it makes sense in your day job since you are getting paid to do something for others. But now also? Like seriously? Now that you are finally free to write anything you want on a platform that allows anyone to write anything for free, you still…
